The Potential of LinkedIn
Since I’ve been traveling for the past 18 months promoting the Talent Dividend, I’ve been thinking that if I were Mayor, just like if I were CEO of a major company, I would want to know all the talent I have available to me. Think about that. What if a Mayor or a community foundation president or an entrepreneur knew who had what talents? What could you do with that knowledge? Don’t you think you could make important things happen?
I wonder if LinkedIn could be repurposed for a city to understand what talent it has, where it is, how to access it, and how to connect it. Why not? Seems reasonable (and exciting) to me.
Reid Hoffman, where are you when we need you?
I thought opportunity was to launch big ideas that have solutions to big problems?
I like the idea and I would add the following links to shape the concept further:
http://www.phibetaiota.net/2010/10/task-runner-employment-websites-emerging/
The first link is a report by the Federal Reserve Bank of NY on who lives where and holding what type of degree. The second link consists of two websites that are for job seekers wanting to find small tasks for pay (one only allows college students, unfortunately).
This labor force data could also be use to the mix - http://www.census.gov/compendia/statab/cats/labor_force_employment_earnings/labor_force_status.html
